Will Pinellas teacher be tops in Florida?
Florida's Teacher of the Year will be announced tonight, and for the first time a Pinellas teacher could win. Tracy Staley, a fifth grade science/writing teacher at Ponce de Leon Elementary, and Pinellas's teacher of the year, is one of five finalists.
"On behalf of the school board and the entire Pinellas County Schools family, we want to wish Tracey the very best in the final selection process. We are so proud of her accomplishments in the classroom, her support of her colleagues across the district and her commitment to education. Regardless of the outcome Thursday night, she will always be a winner,” Superintendent Julie Janssen said in a written statement.
“It is a huge honor and I am very proud to represent Pinellas County Schools,” said Staley. “It is an amazing opportunity to showcase what we do as teachers and how we impact children’s lives.”
