Will Weatherford endorses Glenton Gilzean for Pinellas school board

Incoming House Speaker Will Weatherford has endorsed Glenton Gilzean in his bid to keep the District 7 seat on the Pinellas County School Board, Gilzean's campaign announced today.

Weatherford released this statement:

“I am proud to endorse School Board Member Glen Gilzean as he seeks reelection for Pinellas County School Board District 7. Glen has the background, vision and the passion necessary to help Pinellas County students receive a high quality education that will prepare them to compete in the global marketplace.”

Earlier this week, Gilzean announced that former Gov. Jeb Bush also had endorsed him. See that blog post here. Gilzean faces four challengers for the District 7 seat, including Rene Flowers, Cassandra Jackson, Keisha Bell and Corey Givens Jr. He was appointed to the seat by Gov. Rick Scott after Board member Lew Williams died. Whoever wins the election will serve out the length of the term, which ends in 2014.

Gilzean released this statement about the Weatherford endorsement:

“It is an honor to receive the endorsement of Florida House Speaker Designate Will Weatherford. As a member of the House, Rep. Weatherford has been a great advocate in the push for the educational reforms that are needed in our state. To receive his support is truly a privilege.”
