Win a speech by President Obama



Obama_speech_300 It was only last fall that Tampa Bay area schools offered to let students have an excused absence just so they wouldn't have to listen to President Obama make what turned out to be an uplifting, motivational speech about staying in school.

So can you imagine the ruckus that might ensue if an area high school actually got the president to give its commencement speech, in person?

Don't scoff. It could happen.

President Obama announced today his Race to the Top High School Commencement Challenge, the ultimate winner of which would get Obama to give the graduation speech to the Class of 2010.

The contest focuses on schools demonstrating through a series of essays how the they are "helping prepare students to meet the President’s 2020 goal of having the highest proportion of college graduates in the world." Only public schools may apply, with the deadline of March 15 at 11:59 p.m.
