A world record
Here's one for the silly files. The Guinness Book of World Records has certified Florida as having set the new mark for Most People Reading Aloud Simultaneously in Multiple Locations (as if people do this often). It happened on Sept. 28, 2006, when 186,054 middle school students read an excerpt of Peter and the Starcatchers. Commissioner Jeanine Blomberg sent out a press release calling this an "incredible triumph" for Florida students. We'll see what she has to say after she releases their FCAT scores later this month. Will it be most students smiling - or maybe crying - simultaneously?
