Zephyrhills High needs a new leader

Data Pasco superintendent Heather Fiorentino got a surprise in the mail this afternoon — a resignation letter from Zephyrhills High principal Gerri Painter (shown).

Painter's departure is not unexpected. She had planned to retire at the end of the school year.

But her decision to quit effective immediately wasn't in the minds of the district administration, which already has replaced the leaders of Land O'Lakes, Ridgewood River Ridge and Mitchell high schools in the past month.

Painter, who has led Zephyrhills High since November 2004, couldn't be reached for comment. A secretary at the school said her departure was for "personal reasons."

Assistant principal Tim Urban is running the daily operations until Fiorentino names a replacement. The job has not yet been advertised.
