Zephyrhills High School gets a new principal
Steve Van Gorden's resignation as Zephyrhills High School principal is not yet official. That takes School Board action, expected Tuesday morning.
But in a signal that the end is imminent, Pasco schools superintendent Heather Fiorentino on Monday named Ridgewood High principal Andy Frelick to replace Van Gorden.
"He is a good fit for that high school," assistant superintendent Tina Tiede said. "He lives over on that side of the county. ... He helped turn Ridgewood around. I think he's going to be good for there."
Tiede added that Zephyrhills, which is in the second year of the district's Assist program, needs to have a principal in place to guide the process. Frelick took Ridgewood through that program after moving there from Wesley Chapel High three years ago.
"He is certainly up for the challenge of a new school," Tiede said.
The district will advertise the Ridgewood job, with a goal of filling the position more quickly than usual.
