Cynthia Armstrong files for reelection to Pasco School Board
Pasco County School Board chairwoman Cynthia Armstrong made it official on Friday, filing papers with the elections office to kick off her reelection bid.
Armstrong, 58, was first elected in 2010 to her District 3 seat representing the region south of State Road 54 and west of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. A real estate agent and former teacher, she said she wants to continue the work the board and superintendent have embarked upon to improve the district organizationally and academically.
"I really want to accomplish greater student achievement. We're not where we need to be," Armstrong said.
She expected the district's move to the Common Core State Standards would help challenge students with more rigorous work, and figured they will rise to meet that challenge. She also looked forward to continuing improvement in the district's financial picture, which has gone through major cuts in the past several years.
"I think we're on an excellent path," Armstrong said. "I just see so much promise for the future."
Armstrong is the first to file for the seat, which comes before voters on August 26, 2014. The School Board's District 1 and District 5 seats also are up for election in 2014.
