Demotions of two principals added to Pinellas agenda

Two Pinellas principals are being demoted and five more are being reassigned, according to a document Superintent Mike Grego introduced at the beginning of Tuesday's school board meeting.

Kathleen Brickley, the principal of Dunedin Elementary, is becoming the assistant principal at Brooker Creek Elementary. Thea Saccasyn, the principal of Ponce de Leon Elementary, is becoming the assistant principal at Tarpon Springs Elementary.

Dunedin earned an F grade last school year and a D the year before. Ponce de Leon earned two consecutive D's. A state-mandated turnaround plan used for the first time this year required schools to drastically restructure after earning two F's in a row or three consecutive D's.

The document also removes Randi Latzke, the principal of Maximo Elementary, who re-interviewed for her job last year per the state turnaround plan triggered by Maximo's F grades. Latzke is to become the principal at Lake St. George.

These changes were not included in the school board agenda posted online last week, and are expected to be approved by the school board during Tuesday's meeting.

Superintendent Mike Grego has also proposed the following transfers:

- Kerry Apuzzo, from Ozona Elementary to Dunedin Elementary

- Lakisha Falana, from Tarpon Springs Elementary to Maximo Elementary

- Arthur Steullet, from Sunset Hills Elementary to Tarpon Springs Elementary

- Paula Texel, from Lake St. George Elementary to Ponce de Leon Elementary
