Donate school supplies with "Stuff the Bus" in Pinellas

Next Friday is the annual "Stuff the Bus" school supply drive for students in Pinellas County Schools.

The event will run from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. August 2 at Largo Mall. Look for a school bus in the parking lot of the mall, 10500 Ulmerton Road. It should be parked near Target.

Stuff the Bus collects donated school supplies for low-income students. In the Pinellas school district, more than half of students qualify for subsidized lunch services. That means about one in five live in poverty. The supply drive is intended to help students in need be better prepared for the new school year.

The following supplies are needed this year: Backpacks (gender-neutral); pens and pencils; spiral-bound notebooks and composition books; loose-leaf notebook paper; one-inch binders; crayons and colored pencils; pocket folders; rulers; and erasers.

The event is organized by the Pinellas Education Foundation, the Pinellas County Council of PTAs and Franklin Templeton Investments.
