Ex-Pinellas school board member named to FAMU board
Former Pinellas school board member Glen Gilzean has been appointed to the Florida A&M University Board of Trustees, Gov. Rick Scott announced Thursday. The appointment must be confirmed by the Florida Senate before it becomes official.
Gilzean, 30, is no stranger to appointments from Scott; he was handpicked for the Pinellas school board's District 7 seat by Scott after the unexpected death of Lew Williams. But Gilzean was deafeated in the November election by current board member Rene Flowers.
In October, Gilzean announced his plans to join Step Up For Students. He serves as the voucher nonprofit's vice president.
Gilzean's appointment to the FAMU board must be confirmed by the Florida Senate.
