Eye on the Elevate Schools
As work continues at seven chronically under-performing Hillsborough schools, the district apparently is considering some changes in leadership.
Principal positions were listed in this week's administrative bulletin at Booker T. Washington Elementary and Potter Elementary, both graded F by the state.
This does not mean the schools will get new principals. Superintendent Jeff Eakins, in releasing the list of Elevate schools earlier this month, said some principals will be asked to re-interview for their jobs. He changed the label to Elevate from "Priority," partly because staff were confusing the effort with a state process that kicks in when a school has too many D and F grades. Among other things, the state asks districts to change leadership at priority schools.
Anthony Montoto has been principal of B.T. Washington since 2013. He led Valrico Elementary before that. Also in 2013, Krystal Carson moved from Forest Hills Elementary to the principals' job at Potter.
