Florida education news: School safety, budget cuts and boundary changes



SECURE SCHOOLS:  Florida  lawmakers are considering several bills related to school security, including allowing teachers to carry guns.

SEQUESTER: Forced federal budget cuts might hit Head Start in  Palm Beach   County , the Palm Beach Post reports.

BIG SHIFT: Nearly 1,000 elementary students will be forced to switch schools in the fall after attendance boundaries were shifted by the Seminole County School Board, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

TEACHER QUITS: A former Teacher of the Year quit rather than face likely suspension, according to the Naples Daily News.

FAIR MARKET VALUE: The Miami-Dade School Board will consider giving superintendent Alberto Carvalho a five-year contract extension and a pay raise based on his “fair market value,” according to the Miami Herald.
