State Sen. Jack Latvala usually gets a warm reception at Florida School Boards Association events. On Friday, the Pinellas County Republican faced some chilliness over HB 7069, the major education bill that some said he didn't do enough to stop as Appropriations chairman. Latvala spent nearly 20 minutes explaining what happened to land the bill into law. These days in the Legislature, Latvala said, there are "a dwindling number of people who care about public schools, particularly in my party." He predicted the party would be in power for the foreseeable future and told the audience: "You've got to figure out a way to get through to them and work with them."
