Hernando superintendent finalists to meet public, interview

Hernando County residents on Tuesday night will have their first chance to meet the five finalists vying for the county’s top education position.

The county will hold a reception beginning at 6 p.m. at their main offices, 919 N. Broad St. Reception-goers can expect light refreshments.

All five candidates are from Florida. Two of the candidates, Ken Pritz and Sonya Jackson, are internal and have both applied for the position twice before. They both serve as assistant superintendents.

The Tuesday meet-and-greet will be followed by two days of interviews, beginning at 9 a.m. on both Wednesday and Thursday. Hernando School Board members will interview four of the candidates Wednesday and one candidate Thursday. They are then scheduled to deliberate.

The board is expected to choose a candidate at their March 19 workshop.

The official start date to replace superintendent Bryan Blavatt, who is retiring, is July 1.
