Hillsborough County seeking teachers for high-needs schools

The Hillsborough County school district is joining its neighbors in seeking high performing teachers for its high needs schools.

Following in the footsteps of Pasco and Pinellas counties, Hillsborough will hold a special job fair on Saturday for its Renaissance schools, serving the district's poorest communities. Once leaders of those schools have had the time to interview and choose applicants, between 8-10 a.m., principals from other district schools will get the chance to interview remaining qualified applicants, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Hillsborough has tried to give schools in the neediest areas first choice among teaching job candidates for several years. The other area districts have more recently adopted that practice, amid a national trend to ensure that all children have access to a highly qualified teacher.

The Hillsborough job fair will take place beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday at Middleton High School, 4801 North 22nd Street, Tampa.
