Hillsborough School Board will move forward on bus purchase plan

With dozens of promotions and appointments this month, the Hillsborough County school district is organizing orientation tours for its new assistant principals.

Look for them to descend en masse on these schools Tuesday: Tampa Bay Boulevard Elementary, Blake High, Orange Grove Middle Magnet, Lake Magdalene Elementary; Chamberlain High, Adams Middle, Lewis Elementary; King High, Greco Middle, Mango Elementary, Armwood High and  Jennings Middle School.

While that's happening, the School Board will meet in two workshops. The morning gathering will be about their protocol, or "way of work."

In the afternoon they will get down to the tricky business of buying school busses. After struggling with this issue in 2013, the board agreed to hire a consultant. At Tuesday's session, members will discuss what direction to give School Bus Consultants, Inc. as the firm comes on board.

Ideas discussed at recent board meetings include alternative fuel sources and joining forces with HARTline. The district also continues to battle a shortage of drivers, despite a new recruitment bonus. But members might decide to narrow their focus to which of three bus manufacturers to select.
