Hillsborough's high schools are challenging, study says
Hillsborough County's public high schools are among the most challenging in the nation, according to a Washington Post ranking.
Plant High School led at 97th place and has ranked in the top 100 every year since 2004. Seven high schools moved up on the list, including Strawberry Crest from 1319 to 412; Tampa Bay Technical from 984 to 419; and Spoto from 829 to 614.
The rankings compare 22,000 public high schools nationwide.
The list is based on the Challenge Index, intended as a measure of excellence and equity. The formula adds the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and college-level tests administered at a school and divides them by the number of seniors who graduated that year.
