Hillsborough's Olson strikes back at Weston
It's well known around the Hillsborough County school district that Mike Weston and Candy Olson don't like each other.
Weston, a Freedom High School math teacher and candidate for Olson's south Tampa board seat, is always very direct in his criticism of the longtime incumbent. Sometimes it's quite biting.
At Tuesday's board meeting, Olson turned the tables.
Saying she was tired of being attacked, Olson read into the record an anonymous letter that was sent to district officials. The writer, who identified herself as a coworker at Freedom, accuses Weston of being belittling students and disrespecting female coworkers.
"This creates a hostile and stressful work environment," the letter said.
Weston, who was in the back of the room, deferred all comment to Stephanie Baxter-Jenkins, an attorney and executive director of the Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association.
Olson's remarks came shortly after the board voted 5-2 to stop posting the names of school employees who are up for disciplinary action, prompting Baxter-Jenkins to say: "I'm pretty shocked and appalled that a board member that cares so much about the privacy of individuals would then go to that place."
