Lakewood High graduation rescheduled, split into two groups
Lakewood High School has rescheduled its graduation ceremony because of the strong possibility of rain, district officials announced today. We wrote today about what high schools would do if their ceremonies get rained out.
Families at Lakewood High should get a recorded message tonight alerting them about the change. Graduation now will be held Friday morning, rather than Thursday night. But the biggest switch is that seniors will graduate in two groups - split by gender - because the auditorium isn't big enough for the entire class.
That means girls will graduate at 8 a.m. Friday and boys will graduate at 10 a.m. Friday.
Lakewood's graduation typically is held on the football field. That's something Principal Bob Vicari tried to change when he took over about three years ago, but he said there was strong resistance in the community. The reason he suggested making the change was because of the possibility of inclement weather.
