Latest round of FCAT, end-of-course exam results posted

The latest round of Florida's annual testing results have been posted to the Florida Department of Education website.

Under law, the state had until June 8 (that's Saturday) to release the FCAT outcome, which already come after many children have ended classes and headed home for the summer.

District officials received their local numbers early this morning, and the commissioner held a phone conference for superintendents at 9 a.m. Some basic information already has trickled out.

In Pasco schools, for instance, officials said the district had higher percentages of students at or above grade level than the state in fifth, sixth, seventh, ninth and tenth grade reading; fifth, sixth and eighth grade math, and eighth grade science. The district also exceeded the state passing rate in biology, geometry and U.S. history end-of-course exams, while equaling the state rate in algebra.

The media call begins at 11 a.m., after which we'll have more specific details.
