Media specialists pack the Pasco School Board meeting
More than 50 speakers signed up Tuesday evening to speak on behalf of Pasco school district media specialists, whose jobs have been slated for elimination in the coming school year.
Students, parents, colleagues and media specialists themselves pleaded passionately for more than an hour for the School Board to reject superintendent Kurt Browning's proposal.
Substitute teacher Judy Williams suggested that the district should be thinking about expanding the reach of the media specialists rather than cutting them, given the direction that education is headed. "There are many times I couldn't have met the challenge if it hadn't been for the media specialists," Williams said. "Those people are key."
Land O'Lakes High freshman Kenny Blankenship told the board its decision was like the one Bruce Wayne faced when choosing whether to become Batman and save the city, or walk away to save himself. He urged the members to act for the good of the students.
The board and superintendent did not comment after the speakers.
