Mid-year job fair stocks up on teachers for Pinellas' most struggling schools
The Pinellas County school district is creating a pipeline of teachers for its most struggling schools.
Fifteen applicants attended a job fair held Thursday for schools within the Transformation Zone, eight elementary schools targeted for their historically low academic performance.
Of those, Maximo Elementary in St. Petersburg hired one full-time teacher and has two teachers in training, Campbell Park Elementary also in St. Petersburg hired one teacher in training, and Sandy Lane Elementary in Clearwater recommended one teacher in training to be hired.
According to school district figures, most vacancies in the schools have been filled. High Point Elementary in Clearwater and Lakewood Elementary and Melrose Elementary in St. Petersburg all lack one teacher each.
