More than 100 teachers hired at Pinellas job fair
Superintendent Mike Grego told the School Board that the district hired 117 teachers at its first job fair last month.
Grego wanted to hold a job fair to try to recruit the best teachers before they got snapped up. The Gradebook heard quite a few complaints about the fair - long lines, principals leaving early, and job candidates whose name tags were improperly marked - but Grego seemed pleased with the results of the inaugural event. The fair was invitation only and was held June 13.
The school district invited 640 teachers to the fair. Of those, only 79 had been involuntarily transferred from their current position.
Even with declining enrollment, Pinellas County Schools hires about 300 to 400 teachers each year.
