NAACP holding strategy session about schools



The NAACP in St. Petersburg is holding a strategy session to talk about how Melrose Elementary and Campbell Park Elementary can be improved. The two are among six elementary schools in Pinellas County on the state's list of lowest performing schools.

The education committee meeing will be held at 7 p.m. April 16 at the NAACP St. Petersburg south branch office, 1501 16th St. South.

The NAACP sent out this message about the meeting:

"Dear NAACP St Pete Member and Supporter:

The St Pete NAACP Education Program strives to ensure that all students have access to an equal and high-quality public education by eliminating education-related racial and ethnic disparities in our public schools.

The South Pinellas NAACP Education Committee is currently working on several projects to help increase learning and improve behavior. We are reaching out and asking for your help with success in our schools. A planning meeting will be held for April 16, 2013, at the NAACP branch office, 7:00 pm.

We understand some be employed full-time and have other commitments. The committee is in need of a cadre' of deeply committed folks. We are asking if you will kindly consider helping where/when you can.  Thank you for every consideration."
