New charter school gets initial nod to open in Pasco County
A new charter school aimed at helping at-risk high school students could soon make its way to west Pasco County.
School district officials have recommended the School Board approve the application of Pasco MYcroSchool, which also operates in eight other locations including Pinellas, Duval and Alachua counties.
If approved, the alternative school would serve up to 250 students when it opens in 2017. Over five years, the length of the requested contract, the school would grow up to 350 students.
Its program would focus on high-tech personalized learning, according to its application. District officials found the proposal to meet or partially meet all state standards for charter schools.
Pasco currently has 10 charter schools in operation, with another in the planning stages.
