New principal, chief of schools in Hillsborough



These administrators were appointed Tuesday at the Hillsborough County School Board meeting.

* Harrison A. Peters, Chief of Schools. Peters comes from Houston, where he worked as chief of schools and school support officer in the secondary office. Before that he held chief of schools positions for the Chicago Public Schools system. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1993 to 1995 and held his first teaching job between 1999 and 2002, at the Phyllis Wheatley Elementary School in Orlando.

* Valerie Newton, Principal, Greco Middle School. Newton, 47, replaces Yinka Alege, who is now the district's director of Leadership Development. Newton joined the district in 2001 as a teacher at Blake High School. She was assistant principal at Martinez Middle School and, most recently, assistant principal at Walker Middle Magnet School.

* Jarrod Haneline, Principal, Bailey Elementary School. Haneline, 33, replaces Russell Wallace, who is now assistant principal at Bryan, which was Haneline's last position. Haneline joined the district in 2005 as a teacher at Bellamy Elementary School. He also taught at Reddick Elementary before joining Bryan in 2011.

* Michelle McClellan, Principal, Jackson Elementary School. McClellan, 45, replaces Dora Madison, who is retiring. McClellan joined the school district in 2004 as a teacher at Apollo Beach Elementary. She worked most recently as assistant principal at Robinson Elementary.
