New principal for Potter, an Elevate School
The Hillsborough County School Board on Tuesday named Melanie Hill as principal of Potter Elementary, an F-rated East Tampa school and one of seven the district has chosen for improvement under its new "Elevate" program.
Hill has worked for the district since 1999. She began her career as a teacher at Shore, Pizzo and Lockhart elementary schools. She worked as an academic intervention specialist at Temple Terrace Elementary, then as an assistant principal at Shore and Bing Elementary.
She replaces Krystal Carson, who will be transferred.
Hill is the second recent new principal to be named recently at an Elevate school. Six weeks ago Jaime Gerding was given the top job at B.T. Washington Elementary.
No changes have been announced for the other five Elevate schools: Sligh and McLane Middle, Sulphur Springs K-8, Miles and Edison Elementary. It's also unclear how soon specific plans will be unveiled for the schools. Their area superintendent, Owen Young, is one of 13 top administrators who have been asked to re-apply for their positions.
