Newest Hillsborough school gets a principal

Derrick McLaughlin was hired Tuesday to head up the Hillsborough County School District's newest elementary school.

Now known as "Elementary C in Riverview," the new school will ease crowding in the high growth area, drawing from elementary schools that include Collins, Boyette Springs, Sessums, and Summerfield.

McLaughlin, 36, has been with the district since 2002, when he was hired as a teacher at Mintz Elementary School. From there he moved to Tomlin Middle and Bryan Elementary as a teacher, then to Summerfield Elementary as an assistant principal and principal.

Elementary C is expected to open in August.

Separately, Rick Laneau was hired as General manager of Information Technology, replacing Daniel Schultz, who is retiring. Laneau has worked for the district in information services since 2004.

The board also approved more than a dozen assistant principal transfers, shown in the list above.
