Nonprofit that acquired troubled charter school management company postpones meetings
Newpoint Education Partners, the charter school management company that operated four Pinellas County schools in financial distress, made a surprising announcement on Tuesday: it had been acquired by a nonprofit, Alliance Education of Florida.
In letters emailed to families of Windsor Preparatory Academy, East Windsor Middle Academy, Newpoint Pinellas High and Newpoint Pinellas notifying families of the acquisition, two "informal meet and greet" sessions with Alliance executives Justin Matthews and Jennifer Lucas were planned for Friday: One at Windsor Prep from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. for parents of the St. Petersburg elementary school and the on-site middle school, East Windsor, and the other at Newpoint Pinellas Academy and High, which also share the same site in Clearwater, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
As of Thursday night, those meetings have been postponed.
An email sent to Windsor Prep parents after 8 p.m. on Thursday said the meeting would be moved to the the school's scheduled board meeting at 5:15 p.m. in Windsor Prep's cafeteria on March 17, "in order to not disrupt the learning environment."
Neither Matthews nor Lewis have returned any requests for comment since Tuesday.
Chris Wiand, principal of Newpoint Pinellas High and Academy, confirmed that his schools' meet and greet was postponed and will be held concurrent with Windsor Prep's board meeting next week.
