Orange County superintendent appointed to federal post
Orange County schools superintendent Barbara Jenkins, a finalist for national Superintendent of the Year, has added another accolade to her resume.
President Barack Obama has nominated Jenkins to serve as a director of the National Board for Education Sciences. A division of the Institute of Education Sciences, the National Board oversees education research efforts.
Jenkins was one of a dozen appointments made by Obama as his term ends. She still faces Senate confirmation.
"These fine public servants bring a depth of experience and tremendous dedication to their important roles. I know they will serve the American people well," Obama said in a release.
Orange County is the nation's tenth-largest school district.
