O'Shea is new chairwoman of Pinellas School Board
Meet your new Pinellas County School Board leadership: Chairwoman Peggy O’Shea and vice chair Terry Krassner.
The board held a business meeting, organization meeting and workshop Tuesday to work out logistics for the 2015-16 year. After the business meeting concluded, Krassner nominated O’Shea for chairwoman and she was elected unanimously.
Board member Rene Flowers withdrew her name from consideration for vice chair and nominated Krassner for the post. Board member Ken Peluso nominated himself for vice chair. Krassner was elected to the post, getting votes from Flowers and board members Linda Lerner, Janet Clark and Carol Cook.
O’Shea, who was elected to the board in 2006, is no stranger to leadership roles. She served as vice chair in 2007-08 and chair in 2008-09. This is Krassner’s first time serving as vice chair after being elected to the board in 2010.
O’Shea took the helm right away Tuesday, leading a brief workshop to assign board members to various committees.
Earlier, Cook sent off Lerner, the former chairwoman, with kind words followed by a round of applause. “Your passion as well as your compassion has shown through,” Cook said.
