Pasco elementary schools to see principal shifts
Dolly Gauvey, principal of Cypress Elementary School since 2011, surprised her school late last week when she announced her plan to retire at the end of June. She said she wants to travel and pursue other job opportunities while still young enough to do so.
"I had been thinking about it," said Gauvey, 60. "I love to work. That was the hardest part. I love the kids, I love the school system. This was the hardest decision to make."
But she said the timing was right, and she needed to take the step now.
While that vacancy appeared, superintendent Kurt Browning took action to fill others. His moves created a domino effect among several school leaders.
Browning is recommending that Kay Coe move from San Antonio Elementary to the open spot at Pine View Elementary. Michele Berger, who has led Quail Hollow Elementary, which is closing for renovations, will move to the San Antonio job.
On the other side of the county, Tracy Graziaplene will transfer from Northwest Elementary to take over Hudson Elementary, where Linda McCarthy is retiring. And Nicole Reynolds, principal at Shady Hills Elementary, which also is closing for renovations, will slide into the Northwest job.
Still open are the principal jobs at Seven Oaks and Lacoochee elementary schools, as well as Cypress. The new appointments are to go to the School Board on Tuesday.
