Pasco School Board approves new teacher, employee contract

Without comment, the Pasco County School Board unanimously approved a 2014-15 contract for teachers and school-related employees on Tuesday.

The deal provides average raises of 3 percent. It also ends the district's local early retirement plan and bans tobacco use at all district facilities. The result came after often contentious bargaining sessions.

The United School Employees of Pasco ratified the contract a week ago. Pay raises are expected in February checks.

"I am happy that we have been able to provide employees with a meaningful raise for the second consecutive year, while also coming to resolution on eliminating smoking in our facilities and closing the district’s early retirement program to new retirees," said Superintendent Kurt Browning.
