Pasco School Board member Altman to seek third term

The races for Pasco County School Board positions continue to shape up, with the third of three incumbents saying he'll seek reelection.

District 1 board member Allen Altman, who's completing his second term representing east Pasco, told the Gradebook that he wants to return for another four-year stint. He noted that since he won his first election, the district has found itself in a constant cutting mode. Altman said that, as finances improve, he looks forward to working on new programs and improving outcomes for kids rather than reacting to bad news.

As in past years, Altman had to weigh district commitments against his work obligations. Altman is a regional manager for Farm Bureau, and also has other business interests.

"I am going to run again," said Altman, who has not filed his pre-registration papers with the county yet. "I've talked to my wife and family, and people who I have great respect for, who have all encouraged me to do it."

Incumbents Cynthia Armstrong (District 3) and Steve Luikart (District 5) have already filed their intent to run with the elections office. Dr. Marc Yacht also has begun his campaign to seek the District 5 seat.

The primary election is August 26.
