Pasco School Board names newest elementary school 'Wiregrass'
Pasco County's newest elementary school, which opens in the fall, will be called Wiregrass Elementary.
School Board members, saying they preferred to name schools geographically, unanimously approved that name Tuesday evening.
The school is located across from Wiregrass Ranch High and John Long Middle in Wesley Chapel. It is intended to ease crowding from nearby Seven Oaks Elementary, among other over capacity schools.
"I have always felt geographic names are the best way to go," chairwoman Joanne Hurley said, calling the Wiregrass name her favorite among about 40 suggestions.
"I thought that was a wonderful way that helps people locate where a school is and gives a sense of community," added board member Cynthia Armstrong, who made the motion for the selected name.
The school also got a new assistant principal on Tuesday, Melissa Bidgood from Seven Oaks Elementary.
