Pasco School Board set to award two charter school contracts
Two more charter schools are set to receive contracts to operate in Pasco County when the School Board meets Feb. 4.
Pepin Academies, which overcame early defects in its application to gain a charter, is being recommended for a 15-year contract. The school, which will serve students with disabilities, benefits from its strong track record in Hillsborough County as it expands northward. It is expected to open in the Wesley Chapel area.
Learning Lodge Academy, a first time charter applicant, would get a five-year contract. It has not achieved the tax-exempt status it needs to get a longer term. Being started by a local teacher, Learning Lodge aims to serve Title I students in the New Port Richey area.
If they follow through, they would be the eighth and ninth charters in Pasco. Classical Preparatory School also has won a charter but has yet to open.
