Pasco school district to hire new head of training and development
Pasco County school district leaders have gone outside the system to find their new director of professional development and training.
Lea Mitchell, principal of Eagleview Elementary in Thornton, Colo., has been recommended to take the post, which longtime principal and administrator Chris Christoff recently left. Mitchell had been a finalist for the director of teaching and learning job that went to Rayann Mitchell (no relation).
The hiring of outside candidates has become more common under superintendent Kurt Browning than it was in previous administrations. Browning's outside hires have included the directors of human resources and communications, as well as the principal of Lake Myrtle Elementary and the newest assistant principal at Sunlake High.
Many more leaders come from district ranks, following Browning's effort to identify and train local talent, but that has not limited the selection as officials say they want to find the best candidates.
