Pasco schools employee relations director promoted to assistant superintendent
Pasco County school officials promoted Betsy Kuhn, the district's director of employee relations, to assistant superintendent.
She'll replace the retiring Ray Bonti, who oversees support services such as transportation and construction. Kuhn, a lawyer, has been in charge of employee contract negotations and grievances, as well as investigations into employee misconduct.
Bonti (jokingly) dispelled rumors at Tuesday's school board meeting that the reason he was leaving because he's on the shortlist of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's running mates.
"I'm leaving," he told the board, "because I've had a wonderful 28 years with the district."
Bonti, who started his career in education as a social studies teacher in Pasco High School in 1988, was honored by the board and Superintendent Kurt Browning.
Browning recited a line from Bonti's 1988 job application and turned it around on the retiring administrator.
"Respect is not demanded," Browning read aloud. "It is earned."
