Pasco schools unblock access to math curriculum for teachers
Pasco County schools increasingly are expanding use of the Eureka math curriculum. But teachers have found it difficult to access some of the program's online resources.
They raised concerns to the district administration, which quickly discovered the problem. Eureka relies on a Vimeo plug-in, which the district has long blocked because of its historical use as a pornography player.
Officials were loathe to remove the filter, for pretty obvious reasons. But when they learned that teachers only would be connecting to the site, they came up with a compromise.
Teachers now can bypass the filter by submitting their district user name and password. "Once properly authenticated, staff can then access sites that would otherwise have been restricted," assistant superintendent for administration Kevin Shibley told the leadership team in a memo.
The district information technology division is now working up a "quick start guide" for impacted schools, while also standing ready to help if any other problems arise. The district didn't have plans to monitor usage at this time.
