Pasco superintendent Kurt Browning earns leadership certification
Ten months after taking office, Pasco schools superintendent Kurt Browning has become certified.
Earning the Florida Association of District School Superintendents' special certification means that Browning has successfully completed courses in areas including school finance, law, collective bargaining and student achievement, among other subjects.
It also means he's eligible for a $2,000 salary bump under state law governing elected superintendents. Browning, who took only $1 in pay for his first year in office, plans to begin accepting his full paycheck after the anniversary of his swearing in.
"Superintendent Browning should be commended for his efforts to expand and build upon the skills and knowledge necessary to lead the school system in today’s challenging and complex society," FADSS executive director Bill Montford said in a release. "The District School Board of Pasco County is fortunate to have a leader like Superintendent Browning who is committed to public education and to the continuous growth and enhancement of his own leadership skills in order to better serve the Pasco County school system."
