Pasco teachers, support staff ratify contract
Large majorities of Pasco County's school teachers and support personnel voted to approve a contract for the current year that includes no raises for a sixth year, but also avoided unpaid furlough days that initially were proposed.
The United School Employees of Pasco reported that the teacher vote was 84 percent for the contract and 16 percent against. Among school-related personnel, the vote was 89 percent for and 11 percent against the deal. The balloting took place last week, with the counting conducted Tuesday.
The district administration has signaled that it intends to get contract talks for 2013-14 started soon, with a goal of settling before employees leave for the summer. The School Board has an executive session scheduled for Tuesday to discuss negotiations.
