Pasco teachers to work two extra days for pay
The contract negotiating team for Pasco County teachers has agreed to a district proposal that would have all teachers work two extra days for pay.
The memorandum for understanding states the first block of time, equivalent to one full day of work, will be scheduled by principals during teacher pre-planning week. The second will be held on Feb. 17, which had been an unpaid holiday (President's Day). The work days will be mandatory.
United School Employees of Pasco president Lynne Webb said she supported the extra work days with pay because they will benefit teachers professionally and financially.
"Common Core is coming, and our instructional staff know very little about it. This will help orient them," Webb said. "Too, it takes some of the Race to the Top money ... and puts it in the hands of teachers instead of putting it into equipment or overhead costs."
These funds are not associated with salary raises, which are have not yet been discussed during bargaining.
