Pierce gets an acting principal
The search for a replacement for Pierce Middle School's principal is off -- for now.
Superintendent Jeff Eakins this week named assistant principal Pablo Gallego as acting principal of the Town 'N Country school.
Announcing the appointment to cheering employees at the school, Eakins acknowledged it is somewhat "unconventional." The usual course of business would be to select a principal and then have the School Board vote on the appointment at a public meeting.
But as Gallego is only an acting principal, that process was not needed. According to district spokeswoman Tanya Arja, Eakins felt this was the wrong time of year to search for a permanent principal at Pierce. Its last principal, Raymond Padgett, left during the year because of medical issues.
Gallego, 42, has been with the school district since 2002. Eakins said he seemed a good candidate to maintain continuity and stability at the school, which has struggled in recent years with teacher morale and turnover in leadership.
