Pinellas considers $1.9 million sale of North Ward property

The Pinellas County School Board will consider Tuesday whether to move forward with the sale of the closed North Ward Secondary School in St. Petersburg.

GLI Development LLC has offered $1.9 million, minus closing costs, for the property. It's less than one acre of land on 11th Avenue North. It's not clear what GLI Development wants to do with the property, if the School Board approves the sale.

North Ward Secondary School was closed in 2008 and has sat vacant ever since. District officials are recommending that it be sold because it would eliminate ongoing maintenance costs as well as the potential for demolition or liability costs. There's been some push-back against the sale by those in the community who would like to see the school given an historic designation.
