Pinellas elementary school gets new principal, creating vacancy in Pasco

One Pinellas County elementary school's gain has become a Pasco County school's loss, a month into the 2016-17 academic year.

Jessica Clements, principal at Lake Myrtle Elementary in Land O'Lakes since early 2015, has been appointed to lead Sawgrass Lake Elementary in St. Petersburg. She replaced Jean Charles-Marks, who retired.

Before joining the Pasco district, Clements was the first principal of Lutz Prep charter school, leaving to take over Windsor Charter School in Pinellas in 2012. Windsor earned an F grade from the state in 2013-14 and ran into enrollment troubles in 2014, but Pasco superintendent Kurt Browning said at the time he hired her that Windsor's performance did not concern him.

While at Lake Myrtle, Clements has led the traditionally high-performing school to an A in 2015 baseline grading, and B in 2016 with learning gains attached. She has offered to remain at Lake Myrtle for two weeks to help with the transition, and the Pasco school district has already advertised the job.
