Pinellas schedules second application period for new tech magnet schools

Moving forward with plans to reopen two elementary schools as tech magnets, Pinellas had scheduled a second application period for parents seeking options outside their zoned schools.

Applications for admission to Kings Highway Elementary in Clearwater and Gulf Beaches Elementary in St. Pete Beach will be accepted March 12 - 17. Submitted online, applications will be considered from students entering kindergarten through fifth grade this fall.

The school district has also scheduled a "Discovery Night" for families interested in learning more about the Centers for Innovation and Digital Learning at the two elementaries. It'll be held at the Pinellas County Schools Administration Building (301 Fourth Street Southwest, Largo) at 6 p.m. on March 11.

The school board gave initial approval for the revival of the schools - formerly neighborhood schools, which closed in 2009 - at its last board meeting. Plans are pending final approval from the school board.
