Pinellas teachers say yes to new contract

After overwhelmingly rejecting their proposed union contract less than a month ago, Pinellas County teachers returned voted again today, this time ratifying their revised contract with the Pinellas County School Board.

Pinellas Classroom Teachers Association president Mike Gandolfo reported that 82 percent of instructional staff voted in favor of the proposed contract, which restores controversial language regarding physical education specialists and guidance counselors, keeps previously negotiated salary increases averaging 4 percent and sets a maximum of two mandatory meetings a week for all teachers.

The School Board will hold a special meeting Friday at 1:30 p.m. at district headquarters in Largo to approve the contract.
