Sarasota elementary school's punishment for bad kids questioned
A long-standing punishment for Venice Elementary School students who get unruly has sparked a debate within its school community.
Parents have begun to question the appropriateness of requiring the children to walk or run laps outside the school if they become disruptive — and not just in P.E., the Herald-Tribune reports.
Some have suggested that kids are too coddled and they should do the laps, the paper reports, while others argue that any physical punishment should be out of bounds.
“That's been going on for years there. One of the many reasons that I pulled my son out of that school four years ago!” Heather Santiago wrote on a Facebook discussion of the issue.
