School Board member supports move away from white grad robes for honor students
Hillsborough County School Board member Tamara Shamburger was quick to lend her voice in support of a more equitable system of assigning graduation robes.
"In my opinion," she said after reading Thursday's article in the Tampa Bay Times, "the two robe colors are nothing more than a type of caste system that really punishes those who are less academically successful rather than honor those who have achieved high academic success.
"At the end of the day they are all graduates. The class should stand in solidarity with the same color. Honor students should be allowed to accessorize with honor cords, IB bibs, line placement, etc.
"While this is an individual school decision, I would hope that all schools would go to one color in the future."
