Steve Luikart announces reelection bid for Pasco School Board
Pasco County School Board member Steve Luikart wants to serve another term in his District 5 seat, representing the county's northwest corner.
"I have filed my paperwork for reelection," he said Friday, as he left the county government center. "My campaign officially starts today."
A retired high school assistant principal, Luikart, 62, first won his seat in 2010. He regularly has questioned the administration, and was the only board member to vote against the district's 2012 budget, saying the staff had not done everything possible to keep cuts out of classrooms. Luikart had led a committee to investigate moving to a four-day class week, which did not gain any support.
He said he's wants to continue serving because he has more to accomplish, including changes to policies in areas such as student transfers.
Luikart faces a possible challenge from retired county health department director Marc Yacht, who has also filed candidacy paperwork.
The board's District 1 and District 3 seats also are up for election in 2014.
